Jack "Jax" Levesque

Picture of Jack (Jax) Levesque This gentleman, John Francis (Jack) "JAX" Levesque needs no introduction as he was involved in every phase of our deaf advocacy, rights, etc. movement. He was involved in sports, first with NEAAD and EAAD then to NWAAD (NWADB & NWSAD now) and gravitated to FAAD when he went to CSUN for his MA Degree and was back to CSUN for teaching and also with Deaf Adults classes in Northridge.

Jax was attracted to any basketball, motorcycling, softball and other sports activities including as the following:
American Athletic Association of the Deaf (AAAD).
Deaf Bikers of America (DBA).
Eastern Athletic Association of the Deaf (EAAD).
Farwest Athletic Association of the Deaf (FAAD).
New England Athletic Association of the Deaf (NEAAD).
National Softball Association of the Deaf (NSAD).
Northwest Athletic Association of the Deaf (NWAAD), now known as NWADB for Basketball and as NWSAD for Softball.
United States of America Deaf Basketball (USADB).
United States of America Deaf Basketball Organization (USADBO).
United States of America Deaf Sports Federation (USADSF).
World Games for the Deaf (WGD), now know as Deaflympics.
And many others.

His forte was writing, thus he was one of the premiere sports-writer as he published articles and news in international (IGD/WGD/Deaflympics), national (AAAD/USADSF/USADB), regional (NWAAD/FAAD) and others. He was involved with many national basketball tournaments with daily bulletins during the cagefests. He teamed with Peter Wolf in filming many past AAAD Hall of Famers archived at Communication Services for the Deaf (CSD) in Sioux Falls, SD.

JAX was involved in Deaf Bikers of America (DBA) as one of the founders and he was the first DBA Chairperson of 2000 Sturgis.

JAX was the Man for Deaf Counseling, Advocacy, and Referral Agency (DCARA) in the Bay Area in Northern California for many years as its executive director. He was a professional fund-raiser for any organization he was involved in.

Jack (Jax) Levesque died on October 12, 2012. He was an advocate for the Deaf community. He worked as a VR counselor at the Department of Rehabilitation and directed other Deaf-related organizations before he served as executive director of DCARA in 1981 through 1998.

Jack Levesque will always be remembered as a beloved community activist and leader. He was an advocate, administrator, and teacher who gave his best to the Deaf community. He worked as a VR counselor at the Department of Rehabilitation, co-founded the Massachusetts State Association of the Deaf, and was director of several deaf-related agencies before his tenure as executive director of DCARA in 1981 through 1998.
